BAC Team Showdown + Georgian Bay Squall Holiday Classic + Masters IM Fast Challenge Swim Meet Reviews

Middlesex Swimming would like to congratulate all of our age group and masters’ swimmers that raced this last weekend either in Brantford, Collingwood, or Scarborough at their respective competitions over this past December 13th-15th weekend!!!

It was a very busy weekend of racing as the club had roughly 16 swimmers competing in competitions all over Ontario in 3 different swim meets that were being held.

BAC TEAM SHOWDOWN REVIEW

To start the weekend off 12 of our age group swimmers began racing on Friday in Brantford at the Team Showdown. This competition had swimmers from across Ontario in attendance. Our swimmers ended up racing to top 8 finishes, loads of personal best times, heat wins, and again continued to qualify for championship swim meets in further events.

The top swimmer at the swim meet from our club was Anthony Stuckless who ended up swimming a very difficult event schedule but had a breakthrough competition and achieved excellent results in the eyes of our coaching staff. Across the 9 events that Anthony participated within he raced 17 times over the weekend due to advancing on into finals within every single event that he could. Additionally, Anthony took off an outstanding 24.96secs (which is big for Anthony based on where he is at in his swimming journey), Anthony placed top 6 in all of his races, and medalled in two of his swims - Congratulations Anthony on your performance and we hope that you can keep this momentum going as we head into the New Year!!!

The reason for highlighting this is to help all of our athletes and their supporters understand that there will be different times in your swimming journey, just like in life. There will be points in an individual’s journey when they will be able to see rapid improvements, receive quick results, and be rewarded for their efforts almost instantaneously... And then there will be other areas in their journey where they will need to persevere, stay determined (even when it would be easier to give up), continue to push forward in order to obtain improvements, achieve further results, and capture that which they are hoping to accomplish.

Additionally, know that the necessary journey to get to where a person would like to end up along with all of the stops on the way is not always the one that a individual made think they need to go through to get to where they wish to be, but usually it is the path that is required for them to get to where they want to be in the end.

So our coaching staff hopes that each athlete and their supporters embraces the process of the exciting journey that lays in front of them with all of the ups and downs because that is what in the end will make the whole experience that much more meaningful and get them to where they wish to be!

Georgian Bay Squall Holiday Classic Masters Swim Meet REVIEW

1 of our Masters swimmer's (Jennifer Komorowski) headed up to Collingwood for the 2nd annual Georgian Bay Squall Holiday Classic Masters swim meet this past Sunday, December 15th where about 60 swimmers hit the water to race. Although Jennifer was hoping to have better results from a time perspective heading into the holiday season, she still came away from the swim meet with a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd place finish within her races that she competed within.

MASTERS I.M. FAST CHALLENGE REVIEW

On Sunday, December 15th 5 of our master’s swimmers were taking advantage of another wonderful Masters swim meet that was hosted by Swim Ontario & Whitby Swimming at the beautiful Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre pool. This swim meet is particularly interesting as indicated from its name the "I.M. Fast Challenge". The competition has 5 races (50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle, and 100m I.M. - in that order). Each competitor attempts to swim all 5 races as fast as possible (although some swimmers do select to just do a couple of the races), as this competition is usually over very quickly.

Again, not to be out done by our younger age group swimmers, our group of Masters swimmers ended up swimming superb in the races that they competed within (i.e. achieving seasonal or life time personal bests), our club had the most gold medal performances out of any club who had swimmers competing at the swim meet, and David Spence as well as Cameron Charlton were also able to set 4 new club records!!! However, as our coaching staff has said many times before, the most important parts of the swim meet (as it should always be no matter your age) was that everyone swam their best, made new friends, and pushed themselves outside of their comfort zones.

Congratulations go out to Connor LaBranche for his performances at the Masters IM Fast Challenge which led to him winning the men's 18–24-year-old age category trophy for fastest accumulated race time total across the 50m Fly, Back, Breast, Free, and 100m I.M.

Also, congratulations are in order for David Spence for his performances at the Masters IM Fast Challenge which led to him winning the men's 75–79-year-old age category trophy for fastest accumulated race time total across the 50m Fly, Back, Breast, Free, and 100m I.M.

The club would like to ensure that we provide our many thanks to the Brantford Aquatic Club (BAC), the Georgian Bay Squall Masters Swim Team (GBS), Swim Ontario, Whitby Swimming (WS), and all of the volunteer officials for helping to run all of these excellent competitions for our swimmers this past weekend! As always, many thanks to everyone who assisted in putting these events together, as we know that many unseen hours of sacrifice and hard work take place behind the scenes in order to run these swim meets... Especially as we head into the holiday season!!!

Finally, the club would like to thank our dedicated coaching staff who really stretched themselves out this past weekend putting forth a remarkable effort and loads of time out of their weekends to ensure everyone was very well looked after whether at the swim meets or back at practices.
